IN STEP is a series of demonstrations/lectures/performances designed for elementary and middle school students in the Philadelphia and surrounding region, presented by members of the professional teaching staff of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet and its pre-professional level students. Its goalis to expose young people to the contemporary relevance of classical ballet.
It is an opportunity for school children to experience a live, up-close performance by inspiring young artists who represent the grace, vigor, and athleticism common to many youngsters’ sports and action heroes. It also gives participating students a chance to directly interact with the young performers through a personal Q&A. The benefits of such a program are significant. Studies have found that the study of and participation in the arts greatly add to development of a student’s cognitive skills. Further, with childhood obesity soaring, an introduction to ballet offers children and educators an additional option to existing physical education programs.
We invite you to watch a short highlight video (see below) of an IN STEP assembly. If you wish to consider a program for the upcoming school year, we would be happy to discuss the options with you. If you have questions or would like to schedule an assembly, please call Margarita White at (610) 664-3455. We look forward to hearing from you and hope that you will join us in our goal to increase the appreciation of art and ballet among young students today.
